The purpose of the present study was to develop and assess the psychometric characteristics of the European Portuguese versions of the Irrational Procrastination Scale (IPS) and the Pure Procrastination Scale (PPS). The sample consisted of 511 participants of the general population (65.5% female), with a mean age of 31.69 years. Most participants indicated that they had University Education (83.7%) and were in an active professional situation (50.7%). Data were collected through an online platform (LimeSurvey®) and the participants completed the two scales in study, as well as measures of emotion regulation (Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale), psychological inflexibility(Acceptance and Action Questionnaire-II), psychopathological symptoms (Depression Anxiety Stress Scales) and quality of life (EUROHIS-QOL-8). The reliability values were adequate for both the IPS (Cronbach's α = .91) and the total PPS (Cronbach's α = .93). The reliability of the three PPS factors was also satisfactory: the first factor, Decisional Delay (Cronbach's α = .83), the second, Irrational Delay (Cronbach's α = .91) and the third, Timeliness (Cronbach’s α = .81). The CFA confirmed the one-dimensional structure of the IPS [CFI = .96; RMSEA = .09 (90% CI = .08-.11); SRMR = .04; TLI = .92], as well as the three-factor structure of the PPS [CFI = .93; RMSEA = .10 (90% CI = .09-.11); SRMR = .09; TLI = .91]. Regarding the convergent validity, both scales were significantly correlated, in the expected direction, with measures related to emotional regulation, psychological inflexibility, psychopathological symptoms and quality of life. Overall, the results of reliability and validity revealed that IPS and PPS are two very suitable measures to assess procrastination, attesting their use in Portugal.
