Trabalho de pai: Perceção do seu papel como cuidador e a mãe como fator influenciador

Abstract

A presente investigação pretende estudar o papel do pai, como é que este se perceciona e como é que a mãe perceciona o papel do pai. Procurando saber como é que os estilos parentais do pai, avaliados por eles mesmos e pelas mães, se relacionam com variáveis como o sexo do inquirido, o sexo do(s) filho(s) envolvidos, a idade do pai, o tempo que o pai passa em atividades com o(s) filho(s), se o auxilia ou não com os trabalhos de casa, se existe ou não uma distribuição homogénea dos cuidados do filho entre o casal e até como é que o casal se perceciona como pais. O protocolo de investigação integrou: uma introdução sintetizando o contexto e objetivo do estudo, um questionário sociodemográfico, um questionário acerca do(s) filho(s) e da interação do pai com este(s), o Questionário de Dimensões Parentais (Mandleco, Olsen & Hart, 1995) e o Inventário de Aliança Parental (Abidin, 1995), sendo que estes últimos três tiveram uma versão para o pai e uma versão para a mãe. A amostra foi recolhida em Portugal e contou com 60 pais e 96 mães com filhos a partir dos 5 anos de idade. Os resultados demonstram o sexo do inquirido é um fator determinante quando se avalia determinadas variáveis, sendo que a média das respostas dos pais é recorrentemente mais elevada do que a das mães. Verificou-se também que a idade do pai se correlaciona negativamente com o estilo permissivo e que um maior envolvimento do pai na vida do(s) filho(s) se correlaciona de forma positiva com o estilo democrático. É de evidenciar também a correlação existente entre o Inventário de Aliança Parental e o estilo democrático, mostrando que os pais que primam tanto a obediência como a autonomia, tendencialmente, levam a casais que investem nos filhos, valorizando o envolvimento do parceiro.

The present investigation intends to study the father's role, how it is perceived and how the mother perceives it. Trying to find out how the father's parenting styles, evaluated by themselves and by the mothers, are related to variables such as the respondent's gender, the sex of the child (ren) involved, the father's age, the time the father spends on activities with the child (ren), whether or not he helps with homework, whether or not there is a homogeneous distribution of the child's care among the couple and even how the couple perceives themselves as parents. The research protocol included: an introduction summarizing the context and objective of the study, a sociodemographic questionnaire, a questionnaire about the child (ren) and the father's interaction with them, the Parental Dimensions Questionnaire (Mandleco, Olsen & Hart, 1995) and the Parental Alliance Inventory (Abidin, 1995), with the last three having a version for the father and a version for the mother.The sample was collected in Portugal and included 60 fathers and 96 mothers with children from 5 years of age. The results demonstrate that the gender of the respondent is a determining factor when evaluating certain variables, with the average of the father’s responses being recurrently higher than the mothers. It was also found that the father's age correlates negatively with the permissive style and that greater involvement of the father in the life of the child (ren) is positively correlated with the democratic style. It is also worth noting the correlation between the Parental Alliance Inventory and the democratic style, showing that parents who prioritize both obedience and autonomy, tend to lead to couples who invest in their children, valuing the partner's involvement.
