Castelo e Paço dos Condes de Ourém: Arqueologia e Amostras de Argamassas

Abstract

The conservation of the Cultural Heritage in Portugal has been growing in recent times due to an increase in the necessity for restorations. The restoration and conservation of cultural heritage has become a real challenge. The project to restore the Castle and the Paço dos Condes of Ourém, was carried out by the Municipality of Ourém in conjunction with the House of Bragança. Aware of the historical and cultural potential of the Complex, the objective of this project, in addition to its restoration and conservation, is to transform this space into a venue where visitors can be received.The interventions carried out in any historic building must obey the restoration principles submitted in the Charter of Krakow (2000), which provide guidelines to be followed so as to preserve the authenticity of a monument. For this, the archaeological work was essential so that no structures of the walled nucleus were destroyed. The discoveries of structures and archaeological material were revealing and granted prominence in the course of this project.Samples of mortar collected from the Castle and Paço dos Condes during the restorations, were also of great importance during the internship, with a total of seventy-nine samples having been collected. The samples will be included in a database of public interest containing building materials, so that they can be studied and consulted by researchers, or by the general public. In a first study, trace determination analysis was carried out in a laboratory on four samples, with results that reveal information about the cohesion of mortars.

A preservação do Património Cultural em Portugal tem vindo a crescer nos últimos tempos devido ao aumento de intervenções necessárias, tornando-se um verdadeiro desafio na prática das boas ações relativas à conservação dos bens culturais. O projeto de reabilitação do Castelo e Paço dos Condes de Ourém foi realizado por iniciativa da Câmara Municipal de Ourém em conjunto com a Casa de Bragança. Conscientes do potencial histórico-cultural do Complexo, o objetivo do projeto, além de conservar, será dar uma nova funcionalidade aos espaços, para que estes possam receber visitantes.As intervenções realizadas em um edifício histórico têm que obedecer aos princípios de restauro implementados na Carta de Cracóvia (2000), que refere o respeito pela autenticidade do monumento. Nesse sentido, os trabalhos arqueológicos foram fundamentais para que não fossem destruídas quaisquer estruturas pertencentes ao núcleo amuralhado. As descobertas de estruturas e material arqueológico foram reveladoras e concederam protagonismo no decorrer deste trabalho. As amostragens de argamassa do Castelo e Paço dos Condes também tiveram uma grande importância no decorrer do estágio, com as recolhas a serem realizadas durante as obras de intervenção, num total de setenta e nove amostras. As amostras terão como destino uma base de dados de materiais de construção de interesse público, para que possam ser estudadas e consultadas por investigadores ou pelo público em geral. Numa primeira abordagem exploratória, foi realizado em laboratório a determinação de traço, a quatro amostras, com resultados que revelam informações sobre a coesão das argamassas.
