This work was developed as part of a curricular internship for master's degree in Art and Heritage. The study of the tiled cladding located in the main chapel and cruise of the Saint Blaise's hermitage, in Évora, forms the basic structure of this report. Starting from a reflection on the various concepts of heritage and identity in order to understand, how individuals can experience a monument, we go through historical information about the origins of policies and institutions of heritage appreciation in Portugal, and come to international documents and its influences and adaptations to the national reality in the practice of the elaboration of politics of management of the buildings classified as national monument. Then we focus our studies on the Saint Blaise's hermitage. In an initial moment and for contextualization of our object, we made an iconographic survey of Saint Blaise. Once aware of the symbols attributed to the Saint, we seek to understand historically the cult of the saint in Portugal. This information was an added value for the next chapter that brings the evolution of the monument hermitage. The development of our work consisted of a reflection on the history of the Saint Blaise's hermitage. We evaluated the documentation to know the context of the building, the decorative campaigns, the destruction as a result of the War of Restoration, the restoration interventions, the classification as a National Monument and the information about the Hermitage's integrated heritage. The main chapel and cruise tiles were also studied, including technical studies and we sought to emphasize the importance of this study for the heritage valuation of the Hermitage. Finally, we present final considerations on the path taken for the composition of this report, the experience of a study campaign and the reality of an internship in a laboratory specialized in heritage studies. The importance of interdisciplinarity for our study as well as for reinforcing heritage-oriented work has still been addressed. Finally, we considered the possibilities of continuing this study from other approaches, besides the availability of the found technical and material information, for a future database.
