Undertaking an internship allows students to put knowledge into practice and help them prepare for their future careers. Having benefitted from work experience in an earlier course in Pharmaceutical Sciences, the advantages of completing an internship in the field of Translation were evident. To combine both areas of interest, the search for a host organisation focused on companies in the pharmaceutical sector which, owing to their activities, strongly depend on medical and pharmaceutical writing at the national and international level, and thus necessarily require such documents to be translated. This report intends to describe the activities carried out during an internship performed within this context, as well as analyse the work of a translator who specialises in the aforementioned fields. Given the scarcity of sources that attempt to provide a link between a theoretical perspective of translation, as an academic discipline, and its practical aspects, in the context of biomedical translation, an attempt was made to identify the issues that arise in the translation process of the texts which a translator most often encounters in this field. This selection enabled a systematisation of textual typologies as well as of the factors that influence the approach to the translation of each type of document.Biomedical translators can be seen as part of the healthcare value chain, as their role as communication facilitators is essential to ensure the delivery of quality services and the satisfaction of the healthcare system users. The degree of specialisation required for this type of translation may prompt clients to resort to specialists from the biomedical fields for translation; however, language training should not be neglected. The features of specialised translation identified in this report draw attention to the need to make informed and reasoned decisions at each step of the translation process to obtain translations that fit their purpose.
