MEMOIRS - Children of Empires and European Postmemories (648624)-
This article studies the representation of the body of the slave girl and the post-memory of the suffering caused by the slave trade in two novels, Beloved (T. Morrison) and Humus (F. Kanor). The first section of the article questions the modes of representing the enslaved body as well as the limits of historical approaches to accounting for trauma. In the second part, the article focuses specifically on the representation of the woman’s body in the two novels in order to highlight the way in which the writers articulate and stage the return to the past. This comparative essay— conducted within the metaphorical space of the Atlantic and the interdisciplinary field of Atlantic studies—also aims to contribute to a redefinition of the boundaries of literature.por
