Biography
Mafalda Costa has graduated in Biochemistry from the University of Coimbra, Portugal, and received her Master’s degree in Biochemistry (speciality in Microbiology and Molecular Biology) from the University of Coimbra, Portugal. She had a project grantee at the Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology (CNBC/UC), Portugal, in the scope of PTDC/BIA-MIC/2779/2012 project. At the moment, she is a PhD student of Doctoral Programme in Experimental Biology and Biomedicine from University of Coimbra.
She is a member of Molecular Mycobacteriology Group at CNBC/UC and this research group is involved in the identification of new targets for antimycobacterial therapies in tuberculosis disease, namely in essential pathways for the organism’s survival. Her research focused on biosynthetic pathways of mycobacterial polymethylated polysaccharides through of identification of key genes and protein purification strategies toward biochemical characterization of enzymes, which can be potential targets for new anti-tuberculosis therapies.
