Vista Alegre - Centro Industrial do início do Séc. XIX: A ORIGEM (1824-1835)

Abstract

A Vista Alegre desde o tempo em que era só uma Quinta, até à implantação da sua Fábrica e sua solidificação, que se estendeu até aos dias de hoje, tem uma história muito vasta e rica. José Ferreira Pinto Basto, o fundador, teve um papel essencial no que veio a ser considerada uma das mais notáveis fábricas de porcelanas europeias. A sua persistência, as suas ideias, os seus valores e a sua transmissão aos filhos e netos, demonstraram-se determinantes para a sobrevivência desta unidade fabril. Só ao fim dos dez primeiros anos foi descoberta a matéria-prima principal para o desenvolvimento da porcelana de qualidade, o caulino. Estes anos foram fundamentais para a afirmação da Fábrica, bem como da própria comunidade operária. A agregar todas estas vertentes, estava um conjunto arquitectónico muito próprio, pensado e estruturado, que aproximava os patrões dos operários tornando a Vista Alegre numa família. Não existem plantas, nem alçados desses primeiros anos da Fábrica. Este estudo pretende fazer a reconstituição dessa linha temporal, através de desenhos/gravuras e descrições existentes em livros da época.

The Vista Alegre, from the time when it was only a Farm, to the implementation of its factory and its setting, which lasted until the present day, has a vast and rich history. José Ferreira Pinto Basto, the founder, played a key role in what came to be considered one of the most notable European porcelain factories. His persistence, ideas, values and their transmission to his children and grandchildren, proved to be decisive for the survival of this plant. Only after the first ten years, it was discovered the main raw material for the development of quality porcelain, Caulino. These years were central to the affirmation of the factory and the workers' own community. Aggregating all these aspects, was a very unique architectural complex, well designed and structured, which closed together employers and workers making the Vista Alegre into a family. No plans nor elevations remain of these early years of the factory. This study aims to replenishing this timeline, through drawings, pictures and descriptions existing in contemporary books.
