Desafios da tradução técnica no contexto da indústria de moldes

Abstract

This Internship Report is based on a reflection surrounding the translations that were carried out during the curricular internship, accomplished at the company SRFAM, within the scope of the Master's in Translation (German and French). The internship in question lasted two and a half months, from October to mid-December 2020, in Maceira, Leiria. The report is divided into two parts. The first part comprises, as an introduction, a theoretical reflection around technical translation and all the issues related to this area that have proven to be fundamental for technical translators. This section aims to address the complexity of technical translation and its relevance today as also its exponential growth in the world of translation. Furthermore, some problems and difficulties of this type of translation are addressed, namely those of syntactical, semantic, pragmatic nature, etc., which the technical translator may face during the translation exercise. This part also discusses the presence of specialized terminology in technical texts and the importance of technical translators' knowledge of it. Finally, we address the issue of the 'invisibility' of the technical translator during the act of translation and his/her insertion in a cultural and linguistic context. The second part is devoted to the study of the most significant translation projects carried out during the traineeship. We begin by contextualizing the projects and then clarify, in some detail, all the important points concerning each project: who commissioned the translation, what were the source and target languages, what were the possible difficulties. This is followed by examples of terms, segments or sentences that were most relevant, and whose translation solutions we have discussed and tried to substantiate.

O presente Relatório de Estágio assenta numa reflexão em torno das traduções que foram realizadas ao longo do estágio curricular, efetuado na empresa SRFAM, no âmbito do Mestrado de Tradução (Alemão e Francês). O estágio em causa teve a duração de dois meses e meio, de outubro a meados de dezembro de 2020, em Maceira, Leiria. O relatório divide-se em duas partes. A primeira parte compreende, como introdução, uma reflexão teórica em torno da tradução técnica e de todas as questões relacionadas com esta área que se revelaram fundamentais para tradutores técnicos. Esta secção visa abordar a complexidade da tradução técnica e a sua relevância, hoje em dia, e o seu crescimento exponencial no mundo da tradução. Para além disso, são abordados alguns problemas e dificuldades deste tipo de tradução, nomeadamente os de natureza sintática, semântica, pragmática, etc., com os quais o tradutor técnico poderá deparar-se durante o exercício tradutivo. Nesta parte é também abordado o tema da presença da terminologia especializada nos textos técnicos e a importância do seu conhecimento por parte dos tradutores técnicos. Por fim, abordamos a questão da ‘invisibilidade’ do tradutor técnico durante o ato de tradução e a sua inserção num contexto cultural e linguístico. No que respeita à segunda parte, esta é consagrada ao estudo dos projetos de tradução mais significativos, que foram realizados ao longo do estágio curricular. Começamos por contextualizar os projetos e esclarecemos depois, com algum pormenor, todos os pontos importantes relativos a cada projeto: quem encomendou a tradução, quais foram as línguas de partida e de chegada, quais foram as eventuais dificuldades. De seguida, são apresentados os exemplos de termos, segmentos ou frases que tiveram mais relevância, e cujas soluções tradutivas nós discutimos e tentámos fundamentar.
