A Importância da Revisão no Processo Tradutivo

Abstract

This report aims to present the work I carried out as a trainee translator in Convent São Francisco, part of the Department for Culture, Tourism and Sports of the Coimbra City Hall. During this period, I became increasingly interested in the area of revision for two reasons: firstly, I was translating into a second language; and secondly, my translations were not being proofread by a qualified reviser. It quickly became apparent that the revision task is extremely important in order to obtain a good final product. However, this task is often considered less relevant when compared to the translation itself, even though the International Standard ISO 17100:2015 recognises it as a mandatory step in the translation process. Therefore, this report aims to raise awareness around the subject of revision and to highlight, through examples of the work carried out during the internship, that this task is essential in translation work. I will also discuss the specific challenges presented by translating into a second language, as well as difficulties encountered during the translation of touristic texts. A brief introduction to the tourism industry in Portugal is also included, since it was relevant for most texts I worked with during the internship, as well as a theoretical discussion focused on the Functionalist Theory, and an analysis of the competences of translators and revisers, as presented by the expert group/network European Master’s in Translation and the International Standard ISO 17100:2015.

Este relatório de estágio tem o objetivo de apresentar o trabalho que desenvolvi enquanto tradutora estagiária no Convento São Francisco, inserido no Departamento de Cultura, Turismo e Desporto da Câmara Municipal de Coimbra. Ao longo deste período, a falta de um revisor qualificado, aliada à tradução para uma língua não-materna, despoletou o meu interesse pelo tema da revisão e tornou-se cada vez mais clara a importância que a tarefa de revisão tem no processo tradutivo para obter um produto final de boa qualidade. No entanto, e apesar de ser reconhecida pela Norma Internacional 17100:2015 como uma etapa obrigatória no processo tradutivo, esta tarefa é, muitas vezes, considerada de menor relevância relativamente à tarefa de tradução. Assim, com este trabalho procuro dar a conhecer um pouco sobre este tema e, através de exemplos do trabalho desenvolvido durante o estágio curricular, mostrar que o papel do revisor é essencial no âmbito da tradução. Além disso, discuto neste relatório problemáticas com que me debati durante o estágio, como a tradução para uma língua não-materna e a tradução de textos turísticos, nomeadamente as dificuldades de tradução ligadas a este tipo de texto e uma breve contextualização do Turismo em Portugal, área em que a maior parte dos textos trabalhados se inserem. Completo o relatório com uma contextualização teórica à luz da Teoria Funcionalista e ainda com uma análise das competências do tradutor e do revisor, tal como apresentadas pelo grupo/rede European Master’s in Translation e pela Norma Internacional ISO 17100:2015.
