The purpose of this study was to characterize the profile of football players of different competition levels and age groups in various components of football, namely at the morphological level and its functional capacity. To this end, the following procedures were used: (1) Running Anaerobic Sprint Test (RAST); (2) Squat Jump and Countermovement Jump, (3) body composition, with anthropometric measurements of height, body mass and percentage of fat mass. The sample of this study was composed of 39 football players, of which 25 were senior professional athletes (Professional Group), of the Ledman Pro League, Second Portuguese Division, and 14 were under-17 athletes (Youth Group) who belonged to a club that disputed the National Championship of that category. The results showed that the difference, at the level of anaerobic capacity, was not as accentuated as the available literature suggests, with the exception of the fatigue index, where the professionals had much better results than the under-17’s. In body mass (75,28 ± 8,11 kg and 65,21 ± 7,05 kg), heigth (180,45 ± 6,66 cm and 171,65 ± 5,51 cm), maximum power (13,81 ± 2,39 w and 10,85 ± 1,29 w), fat free mass (64,56 ± 6,78 kg and 56,71 ± 5,71 kg) and fatigue index (14,04 ± 5,17 % and 32,09 ± 7,96 %) differences were found between the two groups. Regarding the percentage of fat mass (10,71 ± 2,98 % and 14,13 ± 3,31 %), body mass index (23,08 ± 1,96 kg/m² and 22,11 ± 1,84 kg/m²), vertical jumps, squat jump (34,66 ± 2,72 cm and 35,3 ± 4,88 cm) and countermovement jump (35,74 ± 3,26 cm and 35,66 ± 5,19 cm) there were no statistically significant differences. The values obtained through the measurements made allow us to situate the football players belonging to the sample, comparatively to football players of the same age group and competitive level, both at national and international level. Furthermore, and taking into account the shortage of studies in this area, carried out specifically with football players of the ages and competitive levels now studied, the results of the study contribute to a better knowledge of the functional profile of these athletes.
