"Manual de urgencias cardiovasculares" - A Tradução Médica

Abstract

This project focuses on the translation, from Spanish to Portuguese, of chapters 2, 4, 7, 13 and 25 of the Manual de urgencias cardiovasculares, searching for solutions and strategies to solve translation problems that emerged. The project comes with the goal of conciliating the translation area with the medical area, two areas of interest to me, choosing a manual in the cardiovascular field, full of medical terminology, in order to understand, realistically, the obstacles that a non-specialized translator face. Allying the theoretical with the practical component is the biggest challenge regarding the decision of which path to choose.Given the relevance of the medical translation, some studies are starting to be developed with the purpose of creating an academic subject, to provide training translators more knowledge in this area. Based on these studies, the objective of this work is to present the type of language used in the medical field and the potential solutions and adaptations in this translation. Some of the language and this type of translation specificities, the types and genres of text in this specialized field, the exhaustive use of acronyms throughout the text, the problems encountered, and the solutions adopted when translating the manual, are some of the aspects covered in this project. It is essential to invest in the translator’s specialization so that no serious mistakes occur, that compromises the veracity of the translation and, consequently, the medical practice. Inconsistencies that can make the text lose the clarity of the message, such as excessive use of loanwords, should be avoided. Due attention to the source text is fundamental, especially in deciding the best solutions to be taken in the translation of the target text.

Este projeto foca-se na tradução, de espanhol para português, dos capítulos 2, 4, 7, 13 e 25 do Manual de urgencias cardiovasculares, procurando soluções e estratégias para a resolução de problemas de tradução que surgiram. O projeto surge com o objetivo de conciliar a área da Tradução com a área da Medicina, duas áreas de interesse para mim. Desta forma, foi escolhido um manual repleto de terminologia médica da área cardiovascular, com o objetivo de perceber, de modo realista, os obstáculos com que se deparam os tradutores não especializados em Medicina, como é o meu caso. Aliar a componente teórica à componente prática é o maior desafio no que diz respeito à decisão dos caminhos a escolher. Dada a relevância da Tradução Médica, alguns estudos começam a ser desenvolvidos com o objetivo de criar uma disciplina académica que providencie aos tradutores em formação um maior leque de conhecimentos nesta área. Com base nestes estudos, o objetivo deste trabalho é dar a conhecer o tipo de linguagem utilizada na área médica e as soluções e adaptações possíveis nesta tradução. Algumas das especificidades da linguagem médica, e deste tipo de tradução, os tipos e géneros de texto desta área de especialidade, a utilização exaustiva de siglas ao longo do texto, os problemas surgidos e as soluções adotadas durante a tradução do manual são alguns dos aspetos abordados neste projeto. É necessário investir na especialização do tradutor para que nenhum erro grave se verifique, que comprometa a veracidade da tradução e, consequentemente, a prática médica. São de evitar incoerências que possam fazer com que o texto perca a clareza da mensagem, como é o caso do uso excessivo de estrangeirismos. A atenção devida ao texto de partida é fundamental, em especial, para que se decidam as melhores soluções a serem tomadas na elaboração do texto de chegada.
