| pt |
dc.description.abstract | The fact that there is relevant information that is not available to all the economic agents jeopardizes the well-functioning of financial markets. The insiders look for privileged information in order to take decisions in the markets. It is possible to distinguish two types of insiders, the routine ones, who are not informed about the firms, and the opportunists, who gain significant returns through their transactions based on the information only known by them. It is unquestionable that the insiders, who are directly related to the firms, may be more informed about the future of firms, contrasting with the other economic agents. But are they using this information to gain abnormal profits? This study tries to analyse what happens to the profitability of the assets, after the insiders decision making, in order to verify if they obtained abnormal profits or not, that is, if there was any improper use of information only accessible to some agents. The main results of this study indicate that there was insider trading, in the portuguese stock market. | pt |
