Avaliação de crenças básicas sobre a gestão de incêndios florestais: Estudo da versão Portuguesa da Wildfire Management Basic Beliefs (WMBB)

Abstract

In order to contribute to the understanding of individuals' beliefs regarding forest fires in Portugal, the main objective of this research is to adapt and validate the Portuguese version of Wildfire Management Basic Beliefs (WMBB; Bright, Vaske, Knweeshaw & Absher, 2005). The research protocol was applied to 335 participants, aged between 18 and 92 years (M = 37.04; DP = 15.20). The exploratory factorial analysis of the WMBB pointed to a structure of six factors (a total of 20 items), thus revealing some differences from the original version of the instrument. The Portuguese version reveals good values of internal consistency for all dimensions, except for the Responsibility of the Other and Responsibility of the Self. The temporal stability values were shown to be statistically significant for all dimensions except for the Biocentric and Capacity dimensions. The results showed positive correlations between the dimensions Capacity and Responsibility of the Other and the Perceived Sense of Community and between the dimension of Responsibility of the Other and the perception of risk. The data obtained in the present study suggest that the Portuguese version of the WMBB constituted a measure with reliability and validity that makes it possible to evaluate the basic beliefs about forest fire management in the Portuguese context. The results obtained are discussed in terms of their implications and suggestions for future lines of research.Keywords:Basic beliefs; forest fires; Portuguese context; Wildfire Management Basic Beliefs; psychometrics studies

De modo a contribuir para a compreensão das crenças dos indivíduos em relação aos incêndios florestais em Portugal, a presente investigação tem como principal objetivo adaptar e validar a versão portuguesa da Wildfire Management Basic Beliefs (WMBB; Bright, Vaske, Knweeshaw & Absher, 2005). O protocolo de investigação foi aplicado a 335 participantes, com idades compreendidas entre 18 e os 92 anos (M = 37.04; DP = 15.20). A análise fatorial exploratória da WMBB apontou para uma estrutura de seis fatores (num total de 20 itens), revelando assim algumas diferenças em relação à versão original do instrumento. A versão portuguesa revela bons valores de consistência interna para todas as dimensões, à exceção da Responsabilidade do Outro e Responsabilidade do Próprio. Os valores da estabilidade temporal demonstraram ser estatisticamente significativos para todas as dimensões excepto nas dimensões Biocêntrica e Capacidade. Os resultados mostraram correlações positivas entre as dimensões Capacidade e Responsabilidade do Outro e a Perceção de Sentido de Comunidade e entre a dimensão Responsabilidade do Outro e a perceção de risco. Os dados obtidos no presente estudo sugeremque a versão portuguesa da WMBB constituiu uma medida com evidência de fiabilidade e validade que possibilita avaliar as crenças básicas acerca da gestão dos incêndios florestais no contexto português.
