The research that inspires this dissertation intends to be a contribution to the discussion about the production of care for pastors in crisis situations. In particular, it seeks to reflect on the way in which the vocation and the pastoral function are articulated in the current context of changes in the religious and organizational field in Brazil, based on the influences of neopentecostalism and its possible interference in the identity of the protestant pastor. The secularization process promoted religious untying and the growth of individualism, with an increasing religious traffic influence inside the protestant christianity itself. As a reflection of contemporaneity, and due to the influence of the disputes for “souls” within the new religious movements scene and, in particular, the growth of religious pluralism in Brazil, a tension was increased in the exercise of the pastoral function, namely of the heirs of the protestant reform. For the purposes of discussion, this dissertation considers that neopentecostalism and the new religious movements brought new challenges to the exercise of the pastorate and the dilemma of the confrontation between theory and practice, wondering, then, what are the impacts of the ways of organization of the churches in the exercise of the pastorate. The fast and accelerated training of the new pastors and the growing investment in electronic evangelism as an expansionist strategy, the redefinition of the atuation boundaries of the pastors through the introduction of new assignments and the overlapping of functions, these being inserted in a functional structure that implies a certain isolation, in addition to the disciplinary control exerted by the members of the communities, create conditions for an identity crisis for those who recognize themselves as dedicated to the pastoral call. The current scenario brings case reports of suicide by pastors, in addition to the growing number of pastors who are diagnosed with depression and Burnout Syndrome. Finding themselves in crisis, who can these pastors effectively count on as a support network? What support mechanisms are available to them? The present work sought to reflect on this phenomenon, in an interdisciplinary dialogue between Sociology, Psychology and Pastoral Theology, based on semi-structured interviews with pastors in the cities of Rio de Janeiro and Goiânia, cities that were the birthplace of the main neo-Pentecostal churches of the actuality. The investigation allowed to reveal some ongoing efforts, showing relations of care by the churches and interdenominational organizations in the promotion of care and support, but that there is still a long way to go in order to build models of care and support for religious leaders that offer an emancipatory potential for all those involved in the relationship between pastors-communities-state.
