Abuso de substâncias no meio universitário: realidade dramática ou ilusão social?

Abstract

O consumo de substâncias no meio universitário tem sido amplamente estudado ao longo dos anos, um pouco por todo o mundo, devido ao aumento deste tipo de consumos nestes ambientes. Os estudos sobre o assunto procuram perceber as substâncias que se consomem, mas acima de tudo, os riscos que os estudantes correm ao terem estes tipos de comportamentos. Este estudo pretende traçar um perfil de consumo de substâncias numa amostra da população universitária portuguesa, composta por 151 sujeitos (125 do sexo feminino e 28 do sexo masculino) de várias instituições de ensino superior em se destacam a Universidade de Coimbra, a Universidade da Madeira e a Universidade de Aveiro com idades entre os 17 e 31 anos (representando uma média de 21.6 anos). O protocolo incluiu as escalas de autorresposta: Daily Drinking Questionnaire – Revised (DDQ-R); Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT); Drinking Motives Questionnaire – Revised (DMQ-R); Brief Young Adult Alcohol Consequences Questionnaire (B-YAACQ); Alcohol, Smoking and Substance Involvement Screening Test (ASSIST); Drug Abuse Screening Test (DAST). Os resultados da investigação mostraram que as substâncias mais consumidas são o tabaco, o álcool e a cannabis. Os sujeitos revelaram em média, valores baixos para o envolvimento nocivo com álcool e moderados para o tabaco e cannabis. Houve diferenças significativas entre os sexos para o álcool e a cannabis, sendo que foram os sujeitos de sexo masculino que tiveram as médias de consumo mais elevados. Concluiu-se neste trabalho que não há evidencias, pelo menos nesta amostra, de um problema de adição de substâncias no meio universitário.

The consumption of substances between college students has been widly studied for years, across the world, due to the increase of this kind of consumption in those enviroments.The studies about the subject focused in finding which kind of substances the sudents take and the risks that they expose themselves to.This study wants to discribe a profile of substance consumption in a sample of college students, composed by 151 individuals (125 females and 28 males) from several college institutions, wich we can highlight the University of Coimbra, the University of Madeira and the University of Aveiro with ages between 17 and 31 years old (With an average age of 21.6 years old). The protocole includes self response scales: Daily Drinking Questionnaire – Revised (DDQ-R); Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT); Drinking Motives Questionnaire – Revised (DMQ-R); Brief Young Adult Alcohol Consequences Questionnaire (B-YAACQ); Alcohol, Smoking and Substance Involvement Screening Test (ASSIST); Drug Abuse Screening Test (DAST).The results showed that the substances that were consumed the most were, tobacco, alcohol and cannabis. The sample revealed low average values of alcohol consumption and medium avarege values of tobacco and cannabis consumption. We found significatlly differences between the genders for alcohol and cannabis, and males were the ones with higher avarege values. We concluded that there was no evidence, at least in this sample, that there is an addiction problem between college students.
