Materialização de uma Memória Amputada: Proposta de Intervenção no Palácio de Manique do Intendente

Abstract

Construído como peça central de um ambicioso plano urbano iluminista, o Palácio de Manique do Intendente é um fragmento de um sonho amputado pelo assassinato do seu promotor, Diogo Inácio de Pina Manique. A obra, nunca terminada, foi ao longo do tempo alvo de furtos, adaptações e ampliações que alteraram em grande parte a sua fisionomia. Também a construção arbitrária envolvente contribuiu para que a relação do edifício com a vila se visse drasticamente alterada dos planos iniciais. Indiferente aos habitantes com os quais está há muito divorciada, a obra não passa despercebida por quem ali é visitante. Imponente e monumental, o edifício setecentista, que permanece em ruína, constitui-se como um importante testemunho histórico e arquitetónico da época. À luz do programa REVIVE, torna-se imperativo refletir sobre esta herança expectante, reclamando-a para usufruto público. O exercício propõe a construção de um instrumento de regeneração urbana, social e económica numa readaptação às necessidades atuais. Materialização de uma memória amputada ganha forma através de uma proposta de intervenção sobre o construído que contrarie a tendente degradação deste património e do meio que o envolve, numa tentativa de completar e requalificar o edifício com um novo programa turístico regenerador do espaço e economicamente rentável...................................................................................................................................................................

Built as the centerpiece of an ambitious Illuminist urban plan, the Palace of Manique do Intendente is a fragment of an amputated dream brought about by the murder of its promoter, Diogo Inácio de Pina Manique. Over time, the never finished work fell victim of thefts, adaptations and extensions that altered its physiognomy to a great extent. Likewise, the arbitrary construction of its surroundings contributed to the relationship between the building and the village being drastically changed from the initial plans. Indifferent to the inhabitants with whom it has been for a long time dissociated, the palace does not go unnoticed by those who are visitants there. Imposing and monumental, the eighteenth-century building, which remains in ruins, constitutes an important historical and architectural testimony of the time. In the light of the REVIVE program, it becomes imperative to reflect on this expectant heritage, claiming it for public recreation. This exercise proposes the construction of a tool for urban, social and economic regeneration, in a readjustment of the current needs. Materialization of an amputated memory takes shape through a proposal for intervention on the built environment that counteracts the tendentious deterioration of this heritage and its surroundings, in an attempt to complete and requalify the building with a new touristic, space-regenerator and economically profitable program...............................................................................
