A MURALHA DE BEJA COMO MOTOR DE RECUPERAÇÃO URBANA - das Portas de Mértola ao Colégio dos Jesuítas

Abstract

O presente trabalho é feito no âmbito da disciplina de Atelier de Projeto II do Mestrado Integrado em Arquitetura. Nesta disciplina, pretende-se desenvolver competências de interpretação do património arquitetónico das cidades, com o objetivo de o integrar na vida quotidiana das populações, através do projeto de arquitetura. Parte de um projeto de grupo com o tema “Muralha e Castelo de Beja”, e o objetivo geral de fazer uma interpretação e elaborar uma proposta de intervenção de modo a devolver a “muralha” à cidade. Deste faziam parte vários subtemas, sendo um deles “A Muralha de Beja como Motor de Recuperação Urbana – Das Portas de Mértola ao Colégio dos Jesuítas”, que é tema desta dissertação. A proposta explanada nesta dissertação, tem como objetivo realizar um projeto de requalificação urbana, paisagística e arquitetónica, com uma forte valência na interpretação da muralha, numa zona da cidade onde esta foi demolida. O projeto, cicatriza uma ferida, aberta pelo Estado Novo na malha urbana medieval de Beja, dá resposta aos problemas urbanos, sociais e económicos existentes, repondo o que consideramos ser uma vivência de qualidade ao resolver a maioria das questões presentes. Traz jovens para o Centro de Ofícios, amplia a área comercial, cria infraestruturas e equipamentos de que esta zona está carente, melhorando substancialmente as acessibilidades e a coexistência entre veículos e peões, sempre problemática nestas malhas apertadas, criandomuito estacionamento subterrâneo.

The present work was done in the scope Project Atelier II of the Integrated Master in Architecture, which goals are to develop skills for interpreting the architectural heritage of cities, with the aim of integrating it into the daily lives of populations, through the architecture design. It results from a group project under the theme “Wall and Castle of Beja”, and the general objective of making an interpretation and preparing an intervention proposal in order to return the “wall” to the city. This project includes several subthemes being one of them “The Wall of Beja as Urban Recovery Engine – From the Doors of Mértola to the Jesuit College”, which is the theme of this dissertation. The proposal, explained in this dissertation, aims to carry out an urban, landscape and architectural requalification project, with a strong valence in the interpretation of the wall, in an area of the city where it was demolished. The project heals a wound opened by the Estado Novo in the medieval urban mesh of Beja, restoring what we consider to be a quality experience when solving most of the issues. We conclude that bringing young people to the Craft Center, expanding the commercial area, creating infrastructures and facilities that this área is lacking, substantially improves the accessibility and the coexistence between vehicles and pedestrians, always problematic in these tight urban meshes and creating a lot of underground parking are the lines of action that support the intervention here presented.
