"Macau in Between"- Reflexão sobre as relações interculturais entre Ocidente e Oriente

Abstract

Num Mundo que se viu global desde cedo, as relações interculturais entre Ocidente e Oriente mostraram por vezes ser divergentes. Entre uma certa admiração e união, a relação entre ambas as partes do planeta pode também ser expressada sob a forma de aversão ou disjunção: Ocidentalismo e Orientalismo.Afim de entender melhor como se processa esta relação, se por união ou disjunção, foi realizada uma análise através dos métodos documental, de campo e técnico. A viagem, serviu como forma de investigação por comparação/dedução vivida in loco, experienciada na primeira pessoa. A ela, associou-se também uma recolha bibliográfica de suporte aos conceitos que se mostravam necessários a esclarecer. Macau é, então, o território a Oriente que integra no seu código genético uma forte reciprocidade e convivência com o Ocidente, ficando assim no in between. Para estudar essa relação, foi feita uma análise da evolução histórica da cidade procurando a forma como a evolução arquitetónica poderia representar a relação entre duas culturas: a portuguesa e a chinesa; e também como se poderia rever uma simbiose ou dicotomia no Centro Cultural de Macau e no Núcleo Lisboa. Após uma análise profunda, sobretudo através do método da viagem, foram encontradas narrativas de reciprocidade e influências mútuas que culminaram num resultado sem precedentes.

In a world that has been globalized at an early age, intercultural relations between West and East have sometimes been divergent. Between a certain admiration and union, the relationship between both parts of the planet can also be expressed in the form of aversion or disjunction: Occidentalism and Orientalism.In order to better understand how this relationship is processed, whether by union or disjunction, was performed an analysis through the documental, field and technical methods. The trip served as a form of research by comparison/deduction lived in loco, experienced in the first person. It was also associated with a bibliographical collection that supports the concepts that were necessary to clarify. Macao is, then, the territory in the East that integrates in its genetic code a strong reciprocity and coexistence with the West, thus staying in between. To study this relationship, an analysis of the historical evolution of the city was made in order to understand how the architectural evolution could represent the relationship be- tween two cultures: Portuguese and Chinese; and also how a symbiosis or dichotomy could be seen at the Centro Cultural de Macau and at the Núcleo Lisboa. After a profund investigation, mainly through the method of the trip, narratives of reciprocity and mutual influences were found and they have culminated in an unprecedented result.
