Jovens, formação e trabalho em tempo de austeridade: Condicionantes, estratégias e perspetivas

Abstract

O presente trabalho interroga as escolhas, aspirações e expectativas dos jovens num contexto de crise económica e austeridade (entre 2008 e 2015), procurando compreender em que medida essa conjuntura específica afeta as estratégias de vida dos jovens e o modo como projetam o seu presente e o seu futuro.O trabalho é de cariz qualitativo pelo que se optou pelo recurso a entrevistas e questionar alunos do 12.º ano, quer da via profissionalizante, quer do ensino regular, de duas diferentes zonas geográficas, acerca dos seus percursos formativos, motivação para as escolhas de curso, perspetivas em relação ao mercado de trabalho e outros dimensões associadas ao seu projeto de vida.Consequentemente, os domínios sociais referentes ao lazer e transportes foram frequentemente mencionados, colocando em marcha estratégias redução na aquisição de livros, nas saídas com amigos e contenção no consumo, curiosamente, não no plano subjetivo, mas do sistema familiar. Indubitavelmente, a família, constitui-se, para a maioria, como elemento chave no suporte ao alcance dos objetivos dos jovens, sobretudo devido à sua dependência financeira. Contudo, revelam-se aqui diversas nuances no que concerne à forma como são negociadas as escolhas, sobretudo em função do contexto social. A escola, enquanto sistema educativo e de formação, com a incumbência de qualificar bem os jovens, configura-se como um sistema mais apropriado para uns em detrimento de outros. Assim, foram identificados percursos não lineares e alternativos de formação que os jovens usaram.

This dissertation aims to provide the reader with a discussion of youth identities, focusing on their schooling and training paths, their life projects and desired trajectories in articulation with diverse social systems in the specific crisis and austerity context (2008 - 2015). It seeks to analyze the different strategies that young people developed, their dynamics in articulation with these systems and the way they affected their strategies, choices and life paths.It seeks to equate those complex relationships that, based on a field survey conducted in three different school types and asymmetric geographical contexts, emphasizing the observed dispositions of young people regarding the school system, the family system, the social network, the labor market and its articulation with their subjective life projects, their identities and choices towards their future. It discusses how their choices in a crises context are structured, articulated within social systems and affected their decisions, experiences, networks and life expectancies and how social structures produce and give meaning to their action.Undoubtedly, the family is, for the most part, a key element in supporting the achievement of young people's goals, especially because of their financial dependence. However, a number of nuances are revealed, demonstrating how choices are negotiated, especially in a crises social context. The school, as an education and training system, endeavors a difficult task qualifying young people well, but seems to be more suitable for one than for others. Thus, nonlinear and alternative training paths were used by young people in search of their identity.
