Introduction: Chronic rhinosinusitis has a multifactorial etiology. However, the gastroesophageal reflux has been implied in its development as well as in the aggravation of the nasal symptomatology of these individuals. As a consequence, the use of proton pomp inhibitors (PPI) has been taken into consideration as a therapeutic in chronic rhinosinusitis. Objective: To evaluate the role of the gastroesophageal reflux in the chronic rhinosinusitis, as well as verify the PPI contribute in the nasal pathology.Methodology: Medline, Pubmed and Cochrane databases were used for the bibliographic research. The strategy for the selection was based on the English and Portuguese language, studies made in humans and adults, with no restrictions regarding age or gender. Only articles that specifically demonstrate a relation between the reflux and the chronic rhinosinusitis and the PPI use were included. Results: From the bibliographic research resulted 200 articles, and 10 of these were in accordance with the proposed inclusion criteria. 8 of these suggested an association between both pathologies and 2 have evidenced an improvement in the nasal symptomatology using the PPI.Conclusion: The articles analysis has reinforced the existence of a relation between the reflux and the chronic rhinosinusitis. The use of anti-reflux therapeutic with PPI has demonstrated an improvement in the nasal symptomatology and in the life quality. Nonetheless, more studies are necessary to affirm these assumptions.
