Mecânica de uma personagem: paisagem, escrita, autoria

Abstract

Esta investigação pretende debruçar-se sobre processos de ficcionalização da figura autoral em dois escritores contemporâneos, questionando assim as problemáticas por estes levantadas. Evitando uma simples análise positivista, o meu objectivo passa por questionar como se pode compreender o que definimos por autor de uma forma transversal, convocando para isso alguns trabalhos sobre a teoria da ficção (Bakhtin, Borges, Wood), as principais reflexões sobre o autor do século XX (Foucault, Booth, Chartier, Asensi), assim como algumas contribuições da sociologia literária (Bourdieu, Casanova). Tomando por eixo o processo de retroacção entre a construção de uma personagem ou de uma figura autoral com o próprio processo de construção da sua função-autor, são analisadas duas propostas diferentes desta ficcionalização, assim como as alterações a que as mesmas foram sujeitas ao longo da trajectória do escritor/a em causa. O corpus de análise, a partir do qual este projecto foi pensado, é composto por Roberto Bolaño (1953-2003) e Maria Gabriela Llansol (1931-2008), que traçaram percursos estéticos consideravelmente diferentes entre si e que, de distintas maneiras, resistem à análise narrativa tradicional, reivindicando constantemente novas abordagens sobre o que entendemos por romance em geral, e por autor, em particular. Pese à distância linguística, cultural e social que os afasta, o argumento desta tese constrói-se a partir de uma preocupação que os aproxima: a sua condição de autoria. Para tal, este trabalho começa por realizar um aturado percurso pela recepção crítica de cada um dois nomes, assinalando os principais momentos de legitimação e consolidação das suas trajectórias no interior do campo literário. Esta revisão da imensa bibliografia já existente para cada um deles procura, por um lado, desfazer alguns equívocos que se foram gerando em torno das suas figuras, e, por outro, sublinhar a forma como, mesmo que discretamente, cada um deles se relacionava com a circulação das suas obras. A esta primeira parte, segue-se um estudo sobre várias estratégias textuais que os dois foram desenvolvendo, realçando sobretudo os mecanismos ficcionais inerentes à construção de personagens. Os desafios de mecânica textual destas construções são analisados em estreita relação temática com as problemáticas do autor, evidenciando que aspectos vão ganhando ou perdendo importância para cada um deles ao longo do tempo. Elencadas as temáticas suscitadas pela ficção, a investigação parte para uma abordagem crítica dos dois escritores, apoiando-se na investigação especializada e no contexto sociológico-literário em que os mesmos estavam inseridos, o terceiro e último capítulo pretende reflectir sobre a forma como, após a sua consagração literária, os dois autores decidiram ficcionalizar a condição autoral nas personagens de Aossê e Benno von Archimboldi.

This research intends to address the fictionalization processes of the author figure in two contemporary writers, thus questioning the problems raised by them. Avoiding a simple positivist analysis, my aim is to question how one can understand what we have defined as being an author in a cross-sectional way by summoning some works on the theory of fiction (Bakhtin, Borges, Wood), the main reflections on the author of the 20 th century (Foucault, Chartier, Asensi), as well as some contributions from literary sociology (Bourdieu, Casanova). Taking as its axis the process of feedback between the construction of a character or of an author figure with the process of constructing his own author-function, two different proposals of this fictionalization are analyzed, as well as the changes to which they were subjected throughout the trajectory of the writer. The corpus of analysis, from which this project was conceived, is composed by Roberto Bolaño (1953-2003) and Maria Gabriela Llansol (1931-2008), who traced considerably different aesthetic paths and that, in different ways, resist to traditional narrative analysis, constantly claiming new approaches to what we mean by novel in general, and by author in particular. Despite the linguistic, cultural and social distance that separates them, the argument of this thesis builds on a concern that brings them closer: their authorial condition. To this end, this work begins by making a scrupulous journey through the critical reception of each of the two names, marking the main moments of legitimation and consolidation of their trajectories within the literary field. This review of the already existing immense bibliography for each of them seeks, on the one hand, to dispel some misconceptions that have been generated around their figures, and, on the other hand, to underline how, even discreetly, each of them related to the circulation of their own works. This first part is followed by a study of various textual strategies developed by the two authors, highlighting especially the fictional mechanisms inherent in the construction of characters. The challenges of textual mechanics of these constructions are analyzed in close thematic relationship with the author studies debates, showing which aspects gain or lose importance for each one of them over time. After listing the themes raised by the fictional works, the research embarks on a critical approach of the two writers, relying on the specialized research and the sociological-literary context in which they were inserted. The third and last chapter intends to reflect on how, after their literary consecration, the two authors decided to fictionalize the authorial condition in the characters of Aossê and Benno von Archimboldi.
