This report intends to present the work carried out along the curricular unit "In-School Training and Report", of the MSc in Teaching of Biology and Geology in 3rd cycle of Basic and Secondary Education. The main goals of this curricular unit were to: 1) frame the knowledge constructed during the bachelor's and master's degrees in documents linked by the DGE; 2) know the school reality and working methods leading to an improved teaching practice; 3) verify the efficacy of different pedagogical strategies and resources; 4) reflect on the learning assimilated throughout the year. The initiation to professional practice including supervised teaching was implemented in the D. Duarte Secondary School (DDSS), during the academic year of 2018/2019, in classes of the 7th and 11th grades. The Geology was taught in the 7th grade, with the exploration of the theme "Seismology". The Biology was taught in the 11th grade, with the themes "Life cycles: unity and diversity" and "Unicellularity and multicellularity" being explored. The teaching practice was focused on activities with a practical and cooperative nature, such as pencil and paper activities, use of “hands-on” methodology, representations and the “Jigsaw method”. The use of the “V of Gowin”, concept maps and abstracts, enabled the reach of higher thought orders, improving the rate of information maintenance and subsequent recovery of knowledge. The evaluation was based on pre-tests and post-tests, activities and examinations, with the results of both classes signifying a general improvement in terms of knowledge, which indicates that the teaching practice had a positive impact in the scholars’ cognition.
