The inflows and infiltrations to the drainage systems are less content and their co-participation represent a substantial percentage on the volume that flows to the Wastewater Treatment Plant. This co-participation assume an important role at the environmental, social, technical and structural, economic-financial and public health levels, and this way becomes aware of the impact of this problem. The increase inflow and infiltration is a complex subject, because of it diversity causes and origins. The main reasons that support this problem are the pluviometric phenomena (main cause), groundwater elevation level, an increase in the level of load, the state of systems drainage conservation (age, materials, accessories…) and the clandestine connections of rainwater systems to the wastewater drainage systems. However, two of the most problematics, are the fact of most of the times the drainage systems aren’t properly prepared and dimensioned for this volumes, neither have been a preventive analysis to receive them, and the fact of this big volumes don’t need biological treatment, however, when they flow to the Wastewater Treatment Plant are treated like wastewater and suffer the several treatment process. This implies a significant increase in the volumes that flow to the Wastewater Treatment Plant, manely, in the rainy months, the treatment lost efficiency and the added treatment cost for this volumes. The increase of the water volumes to be treated, sometimes can reach such high values that the Wastewater Treatment Plant doesn’t have the capacity to work correctly, because the volume to be treated exceeds the sizing volumes and the treatment station commitment to realized unwanted discharges without any treatment in the receiving water environments, which can be environmentally harmful but is the most viable solution to avoid this increase of water to be treated. This dissertation intends to analyse the characteristics and the wastewater drainage conditions, approaching specially the causes and infiltrations origins, and respective quantification. It also intend to quantify the volume that flows to the Wastewater Treatment Plant due to the rainwater participation and analyse the financial burden associated with it.
