A Medieva Terra de Cambra : território e sociedade

Abstract

A presente dissertação debruça-se sobre a história do concelho de Vale de Cambra, no período compreendido entre os séculos X e XIV. Tendo por base um corpus documental constituído por 160 documentos, este estudo divide-se em duas partes: o Território e a Sociedade. Na primeira parte, aborda-se a caracterização do seu meio, a toponímia e as suas origens. Analisa-se, depois, de modo mais profundo, Cambra como terra ou julgado, procurando-se apreender a delimitação precisa do território, a sua organização administrativa civil e eclesiástica, através das suas freguesias, vilas e aldeias, das suas igrejas e dos seus oficiais. Seguidamente, num outro item, aborda-se a propriedade e os proprietários – o Rei, a Nobreza, a Igreja e os herdadores. Em estreita relação com este item, está o seguinte, o da Economia, que se desenvolverá em subitens sobre a produção agrícola e pecuária e sobre as rendas. A segunda parte prende-se com a Sociedade. É o momento em que se abordarão, com mais detalhe, as instituições eclesiásticas e as famílias da nobreza, detentoras de bens e direitos na terra de Cambra, com um especial relevo para família de Cambra, pela quantidade de propriedades ali detidas, mas, sobretudo, pela importância deste espaço na conformação e estruturação da família, que do território retira o apelido da família, Cambra.

The present dissertation focuses on the history of the county of Vale de Cambra in the period between 10th and 14th centuries. Based on the documental corpus of 160 documents, this study is divided into two parts: Territory and Society. On the first part, there’s an approach about the characterization of their environment, toponymy and their origins. Furthermore, Cambra is analyzed as a land or county, trying to understand the precise delimitation of the territory, its civil administrative and ecclesiastical organization, through its civil parishes, towns and villages, their churches and their officers. Then, in another item, there’s an approach about property and its owners - the King, the Nobility, the Church and the free workers. Deeply connected with this item is the following, Economy, which will develop into subitems, about agricultural and livestock production and rents. The second part relates to Society. At this point, ecclesiastical institutions and nobiliary families who held lands and rights in Cambra will be analyzed with more detail, with a special emphasis on Cambra family, because of the amount of lands they held there, but mainly because of the importance of this area in the shape and structure of this particular family, which takes the family surname from the land, Cambra.
