Batepá: um passado assombrado? Fantasmas, Memória e Identidade nas Representações Literárias do «Massacre de 1953» em São Tomé e Príncipe

Abstract

O presente artigo propõe-se pensar as interseções entre a memória e a identidade nas representações do «Massacre de Batepá» pelas poetas Alda Espírito Santo e Conceição Lima. A partir do conceito de fantasmagoria de Avery Gordon e da sociologia das ausências e das emergências de Boaventura de Sousa Santos, concluí que, por motivos geracionais, os fantasmas que habitam os seus textos são muito distintos, manifestando conceções diferentes daquela que será a identidade cultural santomense.

This paper examines the intersections between memory and identity in the depictions of the “Batepá Massacre” by the poets Alda Espírito Santo and Conceição Lima. By juxtaposing them with the concept of haunting as defined by Avery Gordon, and with the sociology of absences and the sociology of emergences, proposed by Boaventura de Sousa Santos, I realized that, for generational reasons, the ghosts that inhabit their texts are greatly distinctive, manifesting diverse notions of a Santomean cultural identity.
