At a time when the sector of community pharmacy is in a state of rampant decline, the alternative of a new style of care, driven primarily by the pharmacist in the pharmacy, shows itself as a rather appellative path to follow. A new style, a Point-of-Care style, based in Rapid Diagnostic Tests of biochemical nature, key in the diagnosing of illnesses and their control and monitoring. The most well-known Rapid Diagnostic Tests are the measurement of blood glucose and cholesterol but there are others- a striking array- still unexplored on a financial and scientifical level, related to a wide-ranging of illnesses and parameters, and a collection of patient profiles. To broaden the choice of Rapid Diagnostic Tests to be performed in the pharmacy as an answer to those profiles can mean the ultimate escape to the dark scenery the sector is facing and the rise in protagonism the pharmacist has long claimed. |
