Cancer Stem Cells e a inclusão de nanopartículas nas terapêuticas anti tumorais

Abstract

Os últimos avanços na área do cancro mostram a existência de Cancer Stem Cells (CSC) em diversos tumores sólidos e casos de leucemia. Pensa-se que estas são responsáveis pela iniciação e progressão tumoral, assim como pelo aparecimento de metástases, recidivas e pela resistência a terapêuticas anti tumorais. O crescente conhecimento das características destas células e a crescente evolução no desenvolvimento de nanopartículas tem permitido que surjam novas terapêuticas capazes de suprimir as CSC e assim eliminar o tumor com uma maior taxa de sucesso. Nesta monografia serão descritas as características das CSC e o seu papel nas diversas etapas do desenvolvimento tumoral, assim como transmitir o estado atual das terapêuticas com nanopartículas vetorizadas para as CSC.

The latest advances in the field of cancer show the existence of Cancer Stem Cells (CSC) in many solid tumors and leukemia. They are thought to be responsible for tumor initiation and progression, as the occurrence of metastasis, recurrence and resistance to cancer therapies. The increasing knowledge of the CSC’ characteristics and growing trend in the development of nanoparticles has increased the promises of the former to eliminate CSC and thus eliminate the tumor with better success rate. In this monograph I highlighted the characteristics of CSC and their role in the many stages of tumor development, however the main focus of this work was bring the current state of nanoparticles for CSC therapy.
