Abstract The 2008/2009 crisis had an impact at various levels and the banking as a pillar of Portuguese economy was not immune. The aim of this work is to analyze the effects of this crisis, essentially its effect on the demand for credit to the Portuguese banks. In order to achieve this, a literature review on bank credit, the crisis of 2008/2009 and the evolution of the demand for credit over the last decade was made. This work aims to analyze the activity of Caixas de Crédito Agrícola Mútuo (CCAM) in recent years. The CCAM have a cooperative basis, and have shown a different behavior than the rest of Portuguese banks. Therefore, these will be analyzed in detail to determine whether this position guaranteed them an advantage during the financial crisis. It was possible to verify that after the 2008 crisis a contraction in the demand for credit occurred, but it was not immediate. Is was also possible to conclude that the CCAM’s characteristics were not sufficient to prevent the concession of credit from being affected at the height of the financial crisis. In this report the period of 6 months the curricular internship in a CCAM will be described and critically analyzedpor
