Title: | Dirty realism : a narrativa do espaço construído em Rem Koolhaas | Authors: | Gil, Bárbara Filipa Fonseca Batista | Orientador: | Figueira, Jorge Gil, Bruno |
The following dissertation aims to understand the concept stamped by Bill Buford, in 1983, in order to describe a new generation of American authors - Dirty Realism – its roots and implications for art and, above all, its importance in postmodern architecture. In Liane Lefaivre’s opinion, Dirty Realism in architecture, as in literature, did not consist in an attempt to make up reality, but in a way of actively engage with the lifestyle of a society. It is important to understand how architecture understood the urban space, and how the new social and cultural context of a society in transition constituted a potential condition of disciplinary thinking and project. It is also relevant to realize which languages were used in the design of a new urban space combining emerging areas of consumerist society to a new way of designing. Thus we aim to understand the concept in its primary meaning, its relationship with the architecture of Rem Koolhaas and with the architect as part of the new reality during the American postwar period, in the decades between 1950 and 1980. |
