Arquitetura e memória : o palheiro como objeto de identidade territorial

Abstract

O palheiro, enquanto objeto de humanização da paisagem, surge estritamente relacionado com a prática da pesca. Devido à sua implantação na duna, esta tipologia popular, de carácter efémero e precário, era conhecida como a habitação adequada à vivência da praia. A sua evolução e expansão, durante o século XX, permitiu a ixação de aglomerados ao longo da costa litoral portuguesa. Com o aumento da procura turística destes aglomerados, houve uma evidente alteração da sua isionomia, do ponto de vista social e cultural. O desaparecimento de um modo de viver e de construir foi de tal modo evidente que pouco resta, hoje, desse ambiente. A presente dissertação pretende recuperar a memória do palheiro. Recorrendo à memória social e coletiva, enquanto instrumento ativo de revitalização da arquitetura popular, pretende-se perenizar os valores de identidade local, claramente em risco de desaparecimento, recuperando saberes e culturas construtivas populares através da reinterpretação desta tipologia arquitetónica. Deste modo, existe a vontade de fomentar um pensamento crítico sobre a importância do palheiro como propulsor da expansão dos aglomerados piscatórios e do desenho da paisagem litoral, assim como incentivar a recuperação desta tipologia como novo elemento cenográico, de modo a reaver o arquétipo do palheiro como impulsor da memória coletiva.

The palheiro, as an object of landscape humanization, appears strictly related to the practice of ishing. Due to its implementation on the dune, this popular typology, of ephemeral and precarious character, was known as the adequate house to experience the beach. During the twentieth century, its evolution and expansion has allowed the setlement of ishing areas along the Portuguese coastline. With increasing tourism demand for these areas, there was a clear change in their physiognomy, form a social and cultural viewpoint. The disappearance of a way of living and of building was so clear that today little remains of that environment. This work intends to recover the palheiro memory. Using the social and collective memory, as active instrument of revival of popular architecture, it is intended to perpetuate the local identity values, clearly at risk of disappearing. Through the interpretation of this architectural typology recover popular constructive and cultural knowledge. So, there is the will to foster critical thinking about the importance of the palheiro as driver of the expansion of ishing areas and the design of the coastal landscape. As well as encourage the recovery of this typology as a new scenic element, in way to repossess the archetype of the palheiro as the impeller of collective memory.
