Abstract: Esta dissertação propõe investigar a relação entre a arquitetura e a natureza no movimento moderno, especificamente no desenho urbano desenvolvido por Le Corbusier.
The purpose of this investigation is to analyze the relationship between architecture and nature in the modern movement, particularly in the urban design developed by Le Corbusier. This study consists in the analysis and interpretation of the various plans developed by Le Corbusier [Ville Contemporaine (1922), Ville Radieuse (1930), Athens Charter (1943), Plan Voisin (1925), Plan for São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires (1929) and Plan Obus (1931-1934)] understand the relations between urban design and nature. Therefore it aims to contribute to the evolution of the debate about nature an urban design, which has been explored since the nineteenth century in reaction to the industrial metropolis. The work is divided into three parts, focusing respectively on the housing design and its connection to nature, the solutions developed by the architect to integrate nature in urban drawing, and lastly, the territorial scale of the drawings, which were created with the nature in mind. This study mentions the influence of education, the contribution of many architects, the presence in certain exhibitions and the interventions in several cities that contributed to the development of Le Corbusier’s urban design. The architect stands out for his formidable drawing method, for the freedom of the concept and the balance between architecture and nature.
