On a more globalized society that demands a fairly and equalitarian life, rise the need to create an institution that prepared and supported the people with intellectual deficiency. With the main goal to include these same people into the society, emerged a new professional group that renders the appropriate care to the individuals on these circumstances. This study main goal is to acknowledge the degree and the facts of satisfaction/dissatisfaction, stress and strategies of coping, in employees of an institution that includes people with intellectual deficiency. The workplace satisfaction/dissatisfaction refers to the affective reaction that an employee makes regarding is work, given the intrinsic and extrinsic dimensions. On the actual society we can verify a substantial increase on the lifestyle, due to the demands of the professional activities that wear most of the people spare time. In addition, the rigid schedules, amongst other common situations on our daily life, contribute gradually for the increase of our anxiety levels. An individual feels in stress when he realizes he doesn’t have the ability to overcome the demands of a determinate situation. It becomes inevitable to mention the concept of coping, when talking about stress. That results from the effort to deal with situations of threat, challenge or damage as a strategy to decrease tension (stress). This study is meant to identify the level and elements of satisfaction/dissatisfaction, the level of stress of the workers of The Associação Portuguesa de Pais e Amigos do Cidadão Deficiente Mental (APPACDM) in Sertã and which coping strategies are they using to face the problems that they have to deal with. We used a quantifying methodology, in which the samples are the workers of the 2nd semester from APPACDM in Sertã, on a total of 21 individuals (77,78% of the total). To achieve the goal we have defined, we used as instruments of measure the “Questionário de Satisfação/Insatisfação Profissional”, adapted from Ramos (2003), the “Questionário de Stress”, from Vaz Serra (2000) and the “Questionário de Manifestações Físicas de Mal-Estar” from Pais Ribeiro (2003). V By the results obtained from the analysis, we have verified that the workers of APPACDM in Sertã are pleased with the personal, social and institutional elements that interfere in their work, however, they reveal a lower satisfaction level regarding the managing and administration. The satisfaction level can justify the level of the verified “healthy stress”. The elements that could affect the performance and well being of the workers are: perfectionism, subjugation and low living standards. However, these don’t feel inhibited nor functional dependent. The fact that, they don’t feel minored by the unpleasant events and consider themselves as determined individuals in the resolution of the problems, can be related with the social affection they are exposed. The low level of stress may explain why the workers don’t feel regular illness (nervous, respiratory, muscular or digestive systems). The majority of these workers, reveals active confrontation and resolution of the problems, good coping strategies, hence presenting, consistent indicators of the problem resolution level.
