Que representações sociais da violência entre parceiros íntimos têm os estudantes de enfermagem, medicina e serviço social?: o papel da formação

Abstract

Os objetivos centrais do estudo aqui apresentado são conhecer as representações sociais da violência entre parceiros íntimos (VPI) e a prevalência e cronicidade de condutas violentas nas relações em estudantes do ensino superior, mais concretamente das áreas de enfermagem, medicina e serviço social. É também explorada a relação entre essas variáveis e a influência da formação e da história de violência familiar nas mesmas. A amostra é constituída por 313 sujeitos, sendo 19.8% estudantes de enfermagem, 25.2% de medicina e 55% de serviço social. Os resultados refletem uma baixa legitimação da violência entre parceiros íntimos, com os estudantes de serviço social a legitimarem mais que os restantes. Relativamente às relações íntimas dos sujeitos da amostra, verificou-se que são pautadas por valores preocupantes de violência, ainda que maioritariamente relativos a atos de pequena violência. As diferenças entre o primeiro e o terceiro ano do curso não se mostraram significativas. A formação em violência entre parceiros íntimos revelou ter influência nas representações sociais da mesma temática. Os sujeitos que assistiram a violência física entre os pais/cuidadores com pouca frequência mostraram uma maior legitimação destas situações do que aqueles que nunca assistiram às mesmas ou que assistiram frequentemente. Dos resultados obtidos transparece a necessidade de se desenvolverem iniciativas de intervenção precoce junto de indivíduos jovens de forma a contribuir para erradicar nestes falsas crenças culturais que legitimam e/ou banalizam a violência, ao mesmo tempo que se aumenta a consciencialização sobre esta problemática.

the main goals of the study here reported are to know the social representations of the violence between intimate partners and the prevalence and chronicity of the violent conducts in the college students’ relationships, concretely students in the nursing, medicine and social work areas. The relation between these variables and the influence of training and the influence of the previous history of family violence in them are also explored. The sample is composed of 313 subjects, being 19.8% students of nursing, 25.2 % of medicine and 55% of social work. The results reflect a low legitimation of the violence between intimate partners, with the social work students legitimating more than the rest of the students. About the intimate relationships of the students in the sample, we found that they are grounded in preoccupying values of violence, although they are mainly acts of small violence. The differences between the first and the third year of the course are not significant. Receiving training on violence between intimate partners turned out to have an influence on the social representations of that issue. The subjects that testified physical aggressions between their parents/caregivers with low frequency showed a bigger legitimation of this kind of situations than the ones that never testified or did it frequently. The results show that it is necessary to develop early prevention initiatives with the young people and, in that way, contribute to eradicate false cultural beliefs that legitimise and/or banalize the violence and at the same time make the conscience of the gravity of this problem grow.
