As teorias que os funcionários constroem sobre memórias traumáticas: um estudo Grounded

Abstract

Neste estudo analisam-se as teorias que os funcionários da Casa do Pai elaboram sobre a maneira como as crianças da instituição lidam com o seu passado traumático. Posteriormente, a análise dos dados considera o estudo de Anglin (2002) e compara os seus resultados com os obtidos no presente estudo. Foram entrevistados duas vezes os cinco funcionários que constituem a equipa da Casa do Pai. As entrevistas decorreram na instituição e foram analisadas de acordo com a metodologia Grounded. Os resultados dividiram as 17 categorias encontradas em três grupos: “Categorias Sintomáticas ou primárias”, “Categorias Relacionais ou secundárias” e as categorias que ligam estes dois primeiros grupos. Estes três grupos ligam-se todos diretamente à core category (categoria principal) – “Defesas”. Concluiu-se, a partir daqui, que os funcionários compreendem grande parte dos comportamentos, atitudes e forma de relacionamento destas crianças, como defesas contra o seu passado traumático. A discussão dos resultados foi feita com base na comparação entre o que foi encontrado no presente estudo e os resultados da investigação de Anglin (2002) sobre os fatores necessários ao bom funcionamento de uma instituição para crianças e jovens em risco. Da comparação realizada concluímos que existe uma concordância entre aquilo que Anglin (2002) considera ser os três fatores de bom funcionamento de uma instituição e as categorias formuladas a partir dos relatos dos funcionários da Casa do Pai.

The present study will investigate the theories that the welfare workers of Casa do Pai – a temporary house for children and adolescents at risk – build about the way that those children deal with their own traumatic past. After, we will consider the study of Anglin (2002) and we will compare those results with the ones from the present study. We interviewed twice the five workers of Casa do Pai in their workplace. Those interviews were later analyzed with a grounded methodology. The results split the 17 categories founded in three groups: “Sintomatic Categories”, “Relacional Categories” and the categories that link these two groups. Those three groups all connect to the core category – “Defenses”. The discussion of the results will consist in a comparison between what we found in the present study and the results of Anglin’s (2002) investigation about the necessary factors for a good functioning in a welfare group home. From this comparison, we concluded that there is an agreement between what Anglin (2002) consider as the three factors for a good functioning in a welfare group home, and the formed categories from the reports of the welfare workers of Casa do Pai. Despite the fact that there is still little investigation about the perspectives of the welfare workers, they seem to be fundamental to the welfare group home’s functioning, as well as the quality of their own effort to achieve their own goals. This is a very important phenomenom, particulary in the case of children and adolescent group homes, because these workers are the ones who spend more time with them, and the ones who take the part of carers and role models.
