O bayle mourisco : arquitectura neomourisca em Lisboa e Sintra : as "casas marroquinas" de Raul Lino

Abstract

O presente trabalho pretende organizar uma reflexão acerca da proveniência dos géneros arquitectónicos de influência oriental, edificados em Portugal, especialmente na dualidade Lisboa e Sintra, ao longo do século XIX entrando no início do século XX, tendo em consideração o contexto histórico e cultural europeu, ibérico e nacional. Assim, tendo por base a influência islâmica, a eleição dos casos de estudo recai essencialmente sob as obras em que se verificam elementos de carácter decorativo e/ou arquitectónico, que sugiram uma reinterpretação dos modelos de construção islâmicos e/ou mudéjar. Como forma de compreender a proveniência dos modelos de inspiração oriental que abordamos, e não esquecendo a contextualização oitocentista e a visão romântica do Oriente, é feita uma análise da imagem nacional como um país de relações com o Oriente, e no qual se enquadraria um género arquitectónico e decorativo proveniente de uma corrente ecletizante europeia. Advindo de uma interpretação nacionalista, é abordado o caso do arquitecto Raul Lino, que ao regressar a Portugal reconhece na nossa arquitectura elementos importados da arte islâmica, incorporando-os na sua obra, juntamente com outros elementos verificáveis na nossa tradição, como forma de criar um modelo arquitectónico sintetizador de uma linguagem portuguesa. Abstract The present work intends to organize a reflexion on the origin of architectural genres of oriental influence, built in Portugal, particularly in the duality Lisbon and Sintra, throughout the nineteenth century entering the early twentieth century, taking into account the historical and cultural context European, Iberian and national. Thus, based on the Islamic influence, the election of the case studies, lies mainly on the works in which there are elements of decorative and/or architectural character which suggest a reinterpretation of Islamic and / or Mudejar models of construction. In order to understand the origin of the oriental-inspired models that we address, and not forgetting the nineteenth-century context and romantic view of the Orient, is made an analysis of the national image as a country of relations with the Orient, in which fits an architectural and decorative genre from an eclectic European current. Resulting from a nationalist interpretation, is approached the case of the architect Raul Lino, that on his return to Portugal recognizes in our national architecture imported elements of Islamic art, incorporating them into his work along with other elements verifiable in our tradition, in order to create an architectural model that synthesized a ‘Portuguese’ language.
