Coimbra : [s.n.], 2011.
Dessa forma, a análise incidiu
economizar e gerir materialmente o lar.
acreditamos, ser consequência do regime implantado. This research work aimed at analysing a feminine magazine during the years of the Second World War, focussing on the study of “Eva”, having as main Editor Carolina Homem Christo, during the period of 1939-1945. The War, in general, increased the difficulty of accessing goods, decreased the purchasing power and, subsequently, has driven the main focus to other issues, making it hard to sell the magazine, since it was not an essential good. Hence, its own edition became even more complex both due to the scarcity of paper and to the rising of prices of the remaining materials inherently needed. In this context, we have tried to determine how was it possible to adapt the magazine to those times of War and what were the main strategies used. Since the magazine’s main target was the feminine sex, and in a period where the mainstream exalted the housewife role, it is important to know her day-to-day activities which coped with the husband’s well-being and with child education. In this way, our analysis has focused on the several issues regarding that condition, showing that the main purpose of the magazine were, in fact, aiming the official ideals of the New State, mainly regarding savings and home management policies. In spite of the message of modernity announced by the magazine, the analysis of its content showed that it was still wrapped in some conservativeness which we believe is the consequence of the implanted regime. |
