In this dissertation, which deals with the archaeological study of the land between Aljazede / Ateanha, Chão de Ourique / Póvoa e Vale do Rio Dueça, I conduct a revise on the dynamics and transformation of ways of occupying the space between the Roman and High Medieval periods. Both during the Roman period as the High Middle Ages, I notice the preponderance of the passage of the roads in this place and transmissions still made in a pre-Roman period. The predominance of the rural sites during the fourth and fifth centuries is attested by the presence of three villae (Rabaçal, S. Simão e Santiago da Guarda). Therefore, I analyze how the location of those structures was a central figure in the evolution of the study area, in particular on Várzea de Aljazede. Between late antiquity and the beginnings of nationality there is a void of historical and archaeological knowledge to this location, also evident in the principles of Roman occupation. I intend through the study of traces of the surface and the rural morphology to obtain results that lead me to understand the dynamics occupational developed between the Roman and High Medieval periods, in the designated area of investigation.
