O papel do papel hoje face à tecnologia digital

Abstract

O presente trabalho pretende ser uma contribuição para a análise da questão do lugar e da importância do papel, como hoje o conhecemos, face ao desenvolvimento das novas tecnologias da informação e comunicação (TIC) que vieram revolucionar e pôr em causa o lugar de muitos dos artefactos do nosso quotidiano. Irá o consumo de papel diminuir, inversamente ao crescimento dos dispositivos de tecnologia digital que permitem a criação, circulação, gestão e arquivo de documentos electrónicos? Estatísticas avalizadas mostram um crescimento exponencial na produção e consumo de equipamentos baseados nas novas tecnologias digitais, mas evidenciam igualmente que o consumo de papel para impressão, apesar da crise económica em curso, está também a aumentar de forma muito significativa. Serão aqui levantadas as questões consideradas mais pertinentes para compreender a situação e o lugar do papel, especialmente como suporte de escrita, apesar das suas muitas outras utilizações que a necessidade ou a capacidade técnica do ser humano, aliadas ao desenvolvimento de novas tecnologias químicas e industriais, veio permitir. Partindo da percepção que sobre o assunto tem a comunidade dos alunos da área da Ciência da Informação em Portugal, será equacionada a questão do uso e consumo de papel face ao inquestionável estabelecimento das novas tecnologias digitais, nas actividades diárias e comuns de todos.

This study is a contribution to the analysis of the issue of the place and importance of the role, as we know it today, given the development of new technologies of information and communication technology (ICT) that have revolutionized and undermine the place of many of artifacts of everyday life. Will paper consumption decrease inversely to the growth of digital technology devices usage that enable the creation, circulation, management and archiving of electronic documents? Statistics show endorsed an exponential growth in consumption and production of equipment based on new digital technologies, but also show that the consumption of paper for printing, despite the ongoing economic crisis, is also increasing very significantly. Raised here will be the issues considered most relevant for understanding the situation and place of the paper, especially as support for writing, despite its many uses other than the need or the technical capacity of human beings, coupled with the development of new chemical technologies and industrial has allowed. Based on the perception that the subject has a community of students from the area of information science in Portugal, will be equated to question the use and consumption of paper against the unquestioned establishment of new digital technologies, and common daily activities of all.
