Title: | Identificação de Vectores de Cointegração: Análise de Alguns Exemplos | Authors: | Bação, Pedro Miguel Avelino | Issue Date: | 2000 | Publisher: | FEUC.
A quarta secção conclui o trabalho. The purpose of this text is to discuss the problem of the identification of cointegrating vectors, and its implications for testing hypotheses on those vectors, by means of the analysis of some examples. In the first part we briefly introduce the concepts of cointegration and stationarity and a first example of the identification problem, which we easily solve by imposing an arbitrary normalisation. In the second section we analyse the identification problem more generally. We study the identification of vectors through exclusion and normalisation restrictions. We succinctly mention other types of restrictions that may lead to the identification of cointegrating vectors. The issue of identifying cointegrating vectors with restrictions on the adjustment coefficients is left for the Appendix. In the third section we relate the identification problem to the formulation of hypotheses concerning the cointegrating space. We show that sufficient restrictions for the identification of the cointegrating space, or of one of its vectors, may not be testable. Additionally, imposing all the necessary restrictions to identify one particular vector may not be required to carry out certain tests. The fourth section summarises and concludes. |
