A presença feminina na obra de Júlio Dinis

Abstract

O objetivo deste trabalho é estudar as figuras femininas na ficção de Júlio Dinis, principalmente nos seus quatro romances, sendo o nosso ponto de partida a verificação da forte presença da Mulher e do feminino na sua obra. Será feita uma breve caracterização do contexto sociocultural de meados do século XIX, tentando perceber os fatores que influenciaram ou foram determinantes no percurso literário do escritor. Alguns aspetos que nos pareçam relevantes sobre a sua vida pessoal e familiar farão também parte do nosso estudo. Centrar-nos-emos, depois, na narrativa, mais especificamente, no romance, tipologia textual que ocupou alguns anos da sua curta carreira, e daremos destaque à escolha dos espaços e a algumas das personagens que povoam as suas obras. Na análise dos romances Uma Família Inglesa, As Pupilas do Senhor Reitor, A Morgadinha dos Canaviais e n` Os Fidalgos da Casa Mourisca, dirigiremos a nossa atenção às personagens femininas, percebendo a vida familiar e social, as características de personalidade e a função que exercem no meio familiar; far-se-á, também, o enquadramento no espaço citadino ou campesino envolvente. A partir desta análise, pretendemos estabelecer uma ligação aos ideais sociais veiculados por Júlio Dinis, em específico os ideais femininos, e perceber o espaço que reservou à Mulher no meio e classe em que se insere. Dedicaremos um tópico a dissecar uma particularidade, que surgiu no decorrer do projeto literário do autor: as “Cartas” femininas de um outro pseudónimo (ou heterónimo), Diana de Aveleda. Com a redação deste trabalho, pretendemos, pois, revisitar a obra de Júlio Dinis, reavivar a memória literária de um autor que escreveu intensamente, num curto período da sua vida, tendo-nos legado histórias cativantes, que continuam a instigar os leitores atuais.

The purpose of this academic work is to study the feminine figures in Júlio Dinis’s fiction, especially in his four novels, considering, as a starting point, the verification of the strong presence of the Woman and of the feminine in his literary work.We will briefly characterise the sociocultural context of the mid nineteenth century, trying to understand the factors that influenced or were determinant in the literary path of the writer. Some aspects of his personal and family life considered relevant will also be included in this study. Our focus will be the narrative works, particularly the novel, a textual typology that occupied some years of his short career, and we will give emphasis to the choice of spaces and characters displayed. In the analysis of the novels Uma Família Inglesa, As Pupilas do Senhor Reitor, A Morgadinha dos Canaviais and Os Fidalgos da Casa Mourisca, we will focus our attention on the feminine characters, trying to understand their family and social life, the psychological features and the role they occupy within the family and the local society; the framework in the urban and rural areas will also be analysed. From this analysis, we will try to establish a connection with social ideals conveyed by Júlio Dinis, specifically feminine ideals, and to understand the space he reserved for women in their environment and class.We will dedicate a section to a topic that arose during the literary project of the author: the feminine “Letters” of another pseudonym (or heteronym), Diana de Aveleda. By writing this academic work, we have the intention of revisiting the literary work of Júlio Dinis; we want to revive the literary memory of an author who wrote intensely, in a short period of his life, bequeathing us captivating stories that continue to challenge today's readers.
