dc.description.abstract | Comics are an efficient and expressive way of communicating stories and ideas, given its successive composition of images intertwined with text. The nineth art began by being popularized through newspapers in the middle of the 19th century, where artists depicted social and political issues in the form of a satirical strip. From newspapers, magazines and books to the digital domain, the way of creating and promoting comics has been changing, influenced by the technological advances that have become, more and more, an important part of the artistic creation process. The overlapping of the arts and the digital technologies, not only promoted shifts in the way that art is made, but it also encouraged its reproduction using computers. However, the various advances in the automatization of comics in its entirety or of specific features has left behind the role of the human in the artistic creative process. Thus, wedeveloped a computational tool positioned in the middle of these two possibilities, generating comics alongside the user. For such, we set out to create a comics-generating, semi-automatic system, in which the user plays the role of co-author and artist of the final product, for which we made use of knowledge about comics and computational co-creativity and of Natural Language Processing tasks. The results produced by the systems proved to be promising, with a higher success rate from text like short stories, and they also highlighted the system’s expansion opportunities. | eng |
