The main objective of this dissertation consisted in the numerical evaluation of the mechanical strength of bonded joints in dental restorations. Given the wide variety of materials, restorations and adhesive types can be used in dental restoration, several studies have been developed to reduce the possibility of rupture of the tooth restoration and improve its procedure. In this present dissertation, the results of three numerical analyses will be presented. The study focused on the modeling of geometric models of specimens composed of dentin, adhesive and composite resin, using the finite elements commercial program ADINA®. For each numerical simulation the specimen is fully attached at one end and axially loaded at the other end.In the first analysis (convergence), the influence of changing the element size on the results of maximum displacements and stresses is studied. In the second analysis (non-linear), the results obtained considering two different situations are evaluated: isotropic, linear dentin and non-linear dentin. Finally, a performance comparison of three different adhesives applied to the specimen is made. With the results, it was possible to conclude that as the element size becomes smaller, the numerical result becomes more realistic. Also, there is little difference in the results, in terms of changing the behaviour of the dentin. Each adhesive presents different failure instants and maximum stress values. The Optibond Solo Plus adhesive gives the best results. |
