AVALIAÇÃO DA NEGLIGÊNCIA PARENTAL NA ADOLESCÊNCIA ESTUDO DE VALIDAÇÃO DA VERSÃO PORTUGUESA DE UMA MEDIDA DE AUTORELATO EM ADOLESCENTES DA COMUNIDADE

Abstract

Parental negligence in adolescence has a negative influence on the normal development of adolescents, being a very relevant issue to be studied. However, the lack of assessment tools in this area in Portugal is an obstacle to the development of research. This study aimed to psychometrically adapt and validate the self-report Mid-Adolescent Neglect Scale ( MANS) ( Kobulsky et al., 2019) for a sample of the Portuguese population. After the process of translation and adaptation of the scale, it was applied to a sample composed of three hundred and thirty-four adolescents in lower secondary school, aged between twelve and seventeen years, assessing the perception of parental care provided by the father and the mother, separately. The factor analysis showed a second-order factor structure, with five first-order factors, with psychometric reliability and validity: Inadequate monitoring, Inattention to basic needs, Permission for bad behaviors, Inadequate support, and Emotional neglect. The results supported the invariance of the MANS-PT measure. The results obtained when comparing the adolescents' perception of parental negligence between the father and the mother indicated a greater tendency for the father to be the most negligent element. This study provides empirical evidence of the validity of the Portuguese version of the self-report measure in adolescents from the community, showing that it is a reference for the measurement of parental negligence among adolescents in our country.

A negligência parental na adolescência influencia negativamente o normal desenvolvimento dos adolescentes, sendo uma temática bastante pertinente a ser estudada. No entanto, a escassez de instrumentos de avaliação nesta área, no nosso país, mostra ser um entrave no desenvolvimento da investigação. Pretendeu-se, com o presente estudo, adaptar e validar psicometricamente a escala de autorrelato Mid-Adolescent Neglect Scale (MANS) (Kobulsky et al., 2019), para uma amostra da população portuguesa. Após o processo de tradução e adaptação da escala, esta foi aplicada a uma amostra composta por trezentos e trinta e quatro adolescentes do 3º ciclo e ensino secundário, com idades compreendidas entre os doze e os dezassete anos, avaliando a perceção sobre os cuidados parentais prestados pelo Pai e pela Mãe, separadamente. A análise fatorial evidenciou uma estrutura fatorial de segunda ordem, com cinco fatores de primeira ordem, com fiabilidade e validade psicométrica: Monotorização inadequada, Inatenção às necessidades básicas, Permissão de maus comportamentos, Suporte inadequado e Negligência emocional. Os resultados sustentaram a invariância da medida da MANS-PT. Os resultados obtidos na comparação da perceção dos adolescentes perante a negligência parental entre o Pai e a Mãe, indicaram uma maior tendência para ser o Pai o elemento mais negligente. Este estudo fornece evidência empírica da validade da versão portuguesa da medida de autorrelato em adolescentes da comunidade, mostrando ser um referencial para a medida da negligência parental em adolescentes no nosso país.
