Estatuto de "y" nos antropónimos brasileiros

Abstract

Este artigo inscreve-se num estudo mais amplo sobre os antropónimos em uso no Brasil (Dicionário de Nomes em uso no Brasil, https://dicionariodenomesdobrasil.com.br/) e também em Portugal, e visa apurar em que medida o uso de <y>, em substituição de outro grafema, normalmente <i> ou <e>, é um fenómeno recente ou já antigo, e se o segmento <y> na fronteira direita de alguns nomes corresponde ou não a um novo operador sufixal. Para tal, foram selecionados aleatoriamente nomes femininos que contêm <y>, seja em posição interior, seja em posição final, tendo recorrido ao maior acervo disponível para o efeito, BRASIL, IBGE. Foram selecionados nomes de maior e de menor popularidade, para averiguar em que medida esta se correlaciona, ou não, com a substituição de <i> ou <e> por <y>. Tecem-se algumas considerações sobre as motivações possíveis por esta apetência, com base em considerações já expendidas (Soledade 2020, 2022) e nas representações de falantes que optam por esta configuração. Esta alteração na grafia de prenomes brasileiros inscreve-se na crescente abertura para inovação que ocorre no século XX, dando continuidade à chamada revolução antroponímica que teve lugar no segundo quarto do século passado.

This article is part of a broader study on the anthroponyms in use in Brazil (Dictionary of Names in Use in Brazil, https://dicionariodenomesdobrasil.com.br/) and also in Portugal, and aims to know if the use of <y>, instead of final <i> / <e>, is a recent or an old phenomenon, and whether the segment <y> on the right border of some names corresponds or not to a new suffix. For this purpose, female names containing <y>, either in interior position or in final position, were randomly selected, within the largest collection available for this purpose, BRASIL, IBGE. NAMES IN BRAZIL. Available in: https://censo2010.ibge.gov.br/nomes/#/search. Names of greater and lesser popularity were selected to ascertain to what extent their popularity rate is correlated, or not, with the substitution <i> of <e> or by <y>. Some considerations are made about the possible motivations for this tendency, based on knowledge already available (Soledade 2020, 2022) and on the representations of speakers who opt for this configuration. This change in the spelling of Brazilian prenouns is part of the growing openness to innovation that occurs in the twentieth century, continuing the so-called anthroponymic revolution that took place in the second quarter of the last century.
