Tipografia digitalmente analógica

Abstract

A maneira como usamos a tipografia está diretamente relacionada com a época em que nos encontramos. Do analógico ao digital, do papel ao ecrã, da caneta ao teclado, desenhar e compor tipografia é hoje uma tarefa que pode ser cumprida com recurso a um sem-número de meios. O percurso temporal destes métodos não é necessariamente definidor da sua validade e pertinência. Nesta dissertação fez-se um estudo que reflete sobre a integração de métodos e/ou ferramentas analógicos no contexto atual de produção tipográfica. O objetivo foi clarificar a sua relevância independente, mas também identificar quais as contribuições que trazem quando combinados com métodos digitais.Para isso, levou-se a cabo uma investigação que se divide em duas fases. Inicialmente procurou-se fazer um levantamento teórico destes métodos, entender o seu percurso histórico e estado atual. Em seguida fez-se uma série de explorações híbridas que procuraram tirar partido das suas eventuais forças e colmatar as suas fraquezas. No final deste estudo, esperamos comprovar a relevância destes métodos através da conceção de várias ferramentas ou artefactos, híbridos, e que combinam diferentes métodos de diferentes naturezas em sistemas ágeis de produção tipográfica. Para cada exploração foi dado um contexto de importância, foram descritas as fases do processo e discutidos os resultados obtidos. The way we use typography is directly linked to the era in which we find ourselves.The way we use typography is changes From analog to digital, from paper to screen, from pen to keyboard, today, designing and composing typography is a task that can be accomplished using a myriad of means. The temporal course of these methods does not necessarily define their validity and pertinence. This dissertation conducted a study that reflects on the integration of analog methods and/or tools in the current context of typographic production. The goal was to clarify their independent relevance, but also to understand what contributions they might bring to the craft when combined with digital methods. For that, a research that is divided into two phases has been performed. Initially, a theoretical investigation of these methods was carried out, in which their historical trajectory and current state were analyzed. This was followed by a series of hybrid explorations that seeked to take advantage of their possible strengths and overcome their weaknesses. At the end of this study, we hope to prove the relevance of these methods by designing several hybrid tools or artifacts that combine different methods in agile typographic systems. It was given a context of importance for each exploration, the stages of the process were described and the obtained results were discussed. Finally, this study points out development directions, considered fruitful to the progress of the different systems.key-words: typography, hybrid systems; analog; digital.
