This paper is based on an internship carried out at Bensaude, S.A., with the goal of finishing the Master’s degree in Management at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Coimbra.Nowadays, trade credit is considered an important source of financing for companies. According to the existing literature, payment delays which are inherent to credit granting are due to the fact that many companies do not have a defined credit or collection policy, namely credit assessment criteria and historical customer data. In this way, it is essential to define an action plan to combat overdue debt in companies. The current pandemic situation has caused several constraints not only at the social level, but also at the business level. Many companies went through periods of great difficulties and even insolvency situations. For this reason, it was relevant to investigate the importance of reviewing credit policies, when external shocks such as the COVID-19 pandemic occurs in the Bensaude Group. As follows, this report aims to analyze the results of the Bensaude Group, from the 1st quarter of 2019 to the 3rd quarter of 2021, with the intention of verifying the behavior of the Group during the pandemic period, as well as the results arising from the decision to apply a more restricted credit policy.Through the analysis of the evolution of indicators such as revenue, debt and average term of receipts, it was possible to evaluate that in the 3rd quarter of 2020 the impact of the pandemic on the Group is felt. They were forced to apply a more restrictive credit policy, through a deeper analysis of its customers, using ratios and financial-economic information that previously were not include on the analysis of credit granting. This review of credit policies showed up positive, as the group companies are overcoming the challenges posed by the pandemic. Keywords: trade credit; credit policies; credit risk management.
