"Impactos da Capital Europeia da Cultura 2012 em Guimarães"

Abstract

A dissertação que irei apresentar tem como foco a análise e reflexão acerca dos impactos da Capital Europeia da Cultura 2012 em Guimarães. Este evento internacional serviu como rastilho para uma pesquisa muito mais intensa do que inicialmente previ, pois esta ideia transformou-se numa análise que aborda a transformação de Guimarães nas últimas duas décadas, visto que a natureza da cidade se alterou. Pretendo assim dentro do espaço temporal referir compreender o processo de Guimarães abordado dois marcos inconformáveis da história recente da cidade, do ponto de vista cultural, para entender a nova imagem adotada. Guimarães é uma cidade que entrou no século XXI voltada para a cultura e consequentemente para o turismo, mantendo-se industrial. O primeiro marco referido anteriormente diz respeito ao reconhecimento do Centro Histórico de Guimarães como Património Mundial da Humanidade pela UNESCO, no ano de 2001. Irei analisar este evento de forma sucinta e os seus impactos para a cidade de Guimarães. No que concerne ao segundo marco, trata-se da eleição de Guimarães como Capital Europeia da Cultura em 2012. É importante realçar que tanto a nomeação como Centro Histórico de Guimarães como Património Mundial da Humanidade como a Capital Europeia da Cultura são eventos que estão inseridos no processo de transformação progressiva da cidade, quer em matéria funcional quer representacional. Ao tratar os impactos da Capital Europeia da Cultura em Guimarães abordarei os impactos infra-estruturais, no turismo, no comércio, nas indústrias criativas, na produção, no valor acrescentado, no emprego e nas receitas, na utilização dos espaços públicos e oferta cultural, impactos diretos e indiretos. Ao longo deste documento, é também tratada a origem do projeto Capital Europeia da Cultura e abordada a transformação do seu conceito.

The dissertation I will present focuses on the analysis and reflection on the impacts of the European Capital of Culture 2012 in Guimarães. This internacional event served as the trigger for a much more intense research than I initially anticipated, as this idea has turned into as analysis that addresses the transformation of Guimarães in the last two decades, since the nature of the city has changed. I thus intend within the aforementioned time frame to understand the process of Guimarães addressing two unavoidable milestones in the city's recent history, from a cultural point of view, in order to understand the new image it has adopted. Guimarães is a city that entered the 21st century focused on culture and, consequently, tourism, while also remaining industrial. The first milestone referred to above concerns the recognition of the Historic Centre os Guimarães as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, in the year 2001. I will analyze this event briefly and its impacts for the city of Guimarães. Regarding the second milestone, it is the election of Guimarães as European Capital of Culture in 2012. It is important to emphasize that both the nomination of the Historic Centre of Guimarães as a World Heritage Site and European Capital of Culture are events that are inserted in the process of progressive transformation of the city, both in functional and representational matters. In dealing with the impacts of the European Capital of Culture in Guimarães I will address the infrastructural impacts, on tourism, on commerce, on creative industries, on production, on added value, on employment and income, on the use of public spaces and cultural offer, direct and indirect impacts. Throughout this document, the origin of the European Capital of Culture project is also treated and the transformation of its concept is addressed.
