I understand Margarida Cardoso’s work as part of a global movement of contemporary Portuguese art that aims to reflect on the present in the light of a recent past. I argue that the author’s research starts from the need to overcome a silent event that marked Portuguese society from the 1970s until the 1990s and I place her perspective based on the ideas of whiteness and white fragility. I propose a discursive and critical reflection around A Costa dos Murmúrios (2006) and Yvone Kane (2015) by Margarida Cardoso, which aims to problematize how the author, starting from a white and bourgeois female subjectivity, builds an unsustainable memory about Portuguese white women, in Africa, that excuses them from all colonial violence and that puts them in a position of fragility in concerning, colonized and poor women.pt
