Biography
Jorge Carvalho has a PhD in Environmental Applied Sciences from the University of Aveiro, he is an Urban Planner and a Professor. His professional activity has focused, in a broad sense, in Spatial Planning and combined practice, research and teaching. Jorge Carvalho was director of the Urban Management Department at the City of Évora in the 80's. He is a professor and researcher at the University of Aveiro, and an active member of the research unit on Competitiveness, Governance and Public Policy (GOVCOPP). He recently coordinated the research "Urban Dispersion, Costs and Benefits at Local Scale". He has worked with several municipalities in the production of urban plans and projects as well in the develompment of executive regulation and urban management (e.g.: Sesimbra, Évora, Coimbra, Póvoa de Varzim, Porto, Oliveira de Azeméis, Aveiro, Almada, Abrantes). Jorge Carvalho is the author of multiple books and papers, including: “Évora, Administração Urbanística” (1990); “Ordenar a Cidade” (2003), Quarteto, Coimbra; “Perequação, Taxas e Cedências” (2003, co-author), Almedina, Coimbra; “Dos Planos à Execução” (2012), Almedina, Coimbra; “Ocupação Dispersa, Custos e Benefícios” (2013).
